Drainage services in London

Everything we do, grouped by what you are actually trying to sort out. If you are not sure which one you need, start with the symptom, or just call and describe it.

Not sure which one you need?

You do not have to diagnose it. Many people call describing a symptom (the toilet will not flush, there is water in the shower tray, something smells outside) and that is enough for us to tell you what it sounds like and what it will probably take.

The one thing worth checking before you call is how much is affected. If a single sink or toilet is the only thing playing up, the problem is usually local to that fixture. If several fixtures are slow, or water appears in the bath when you flush the toilet, the blockage is probably in the main drain outside, which is a different job. Knowing which of those you have saves time on the phone and means we arrive with the right equipment.

Clearing, investigating and repairing are three different things

It is worth understanding the distinction, because it is where a lot of money gets wasted in this trade.

Clearing gets the water moving. For a one-off blockage (a wipe, a build-up of fat, roots after a dry summer) that is the whole job and nothing more is needed. Investigating is what you do when clearing has stopped working: a camera in the pipe shows whether something structural is holding the debris, and it is often cheaper than paying for repeated clearances. Repairing is for when the pipe itself has failed, and it can often be done from existing access points without digging anything up.

A drain that blocks two or three times a year does not have a new cause each time. If that is you, the useful next step is a survey rather than another clearance.

What happens when you call

You will speak to the engineer, not a call centre. Describe the symptoms and give us your postcode, and we will tell you what it sounds like, what the work is likely to involve and the basis of the charge, before anything is arranged, not on the doorstep afterwards.

If the evidence suggests the blockage is Thames Water’s responsibility, we will tell you that too, so you can report it to them. It costs us the job and it is still the right answer.

Describe it and we’ll tell you

You do not need to know which service you need. Say what is happening and we will tell you what it sounds like.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

What people usually want to check before deciding which service they need.

Yes. The methods overlap heavily (a blocked drain is a blocked drain), but commercial work usually needs scheduling around trading hours and often benefits from planned maintenance rather than reacting each time. The commercial drainage page covers that side.

Drainage from the fixture to the boundary, and the plumbing that sits alongside it, we handle. Gas work needs a Gas Safe registered engineer and that is not us. We will say so rather than attend and then explain. Full bathroom installations and central heating are also better placed with a specialist.

Possibly. This is what we do most, not an exhaustive list. Call and describe what you need. If it is not something we do properly, we would rather tell you that than take the work.

A CCTV drain survey. Repeat blockages in the same place usually mean something in the pipe is catching debris, and until you see it you are paying to clear the same blockage again and again.

Blocked drain? Let’s get it sorted.

Call and speak to the engineer, 24 hours a day, including tonight.
