Why people call us back
The phone is answered
24 hours a day, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. A drainage emergency at 2am is still answered by a person who can tell you what to do right now.
You speak to the engineer
No call centre, no scripted triage, no message passed on. The person you describe the problem to is the person who deals with it.
The cause, not just the clearance
Pushing a rod through a blockage can get the water moving, but if the build-up is left in the pipe it can soon block again. We would rather clear it properly and tell you what caused it.
Straight answers on who pays
If the evidence suggests the blockage is Thames Water’s responsibility, we will tell you, even though it costs us the job. It is your money, not ours.
Drainage has a reputation problem and most of it is earned. Read how we try to do it differently, or see what customers have said.
Not every blocked drain is yours to pay for
Since 1 October 2011, drains shared with neighbouring properties, and the section of drain beyond your boundary that connects to the public sewer, have generally been Thames Water’s responsibility rather than the householder’s. There are exceptions, so it is worth checking before you pay anyone to clear a blockage. If it looks like Thames Water’s, we will tell you.
How it works
Tell us what is happening
Call, describe the symptoms and give us your postcode. You do not need to diagnose it. We will tell you what it sounds like and what to do in the meantime.
Know the cost before we come
We discuss the basis of the charge on the phone, before anything is arranged. If the job is likely to be Thames Water’s, we will say so instead.
Cleared and explained
We clear the blockage, tell you what caused it, and say honestly whether it is likely to come back, and what would stop it if so.

I called them out for a Blocked Manhole in Whitechapel and they done the Job with a very reasonable price, and also made sure that the drain was fully unblocked.

Questions people ask before calling
The things people want settled before they pick up the phone. If yours is not answered here, ask us on the call and we will tell you straight.
How much does it cost to unblock a drain in London?
It depends on where the blockage is, how accessible it is, what is causing it and what time of day the work is done. A blocked basin trap and a collapsed drain at the far end of a long garden are not the same job. We will not quote a headline figure on a website that turns into something else on the doorstep. Call, describe the problem, and we will tell you the basis of the charge before anything is arranged.
Who is responsible for a blocked drain, me or Thames Water?
It depends where the blockage is. Pipes within your property boundary that serve only your property are normally yours. Since 1 October 2011, drains shared with neighbouring properties, and the section beyond your boundary that connects to the public sewer, have generally been Thames Water’s responsibility, although there are exceptions, such as pipes connected after July 2011 or the shared drainage within a block of flats. If the evidence points to their side, we will tell you, so you can report it to them instead of paying someone to clear it.
Do you really answer the phone at night?
Yes, 24 hours, seven days, including bank holidays. You will get a person, not a message service. If your problem can safely wait until morning at a lower cost, we will tell you that too.
Which areas do you cover?
West and south-west London, Hillingdon, Richmond, Kingston, and out into Surrey and the Thames Valley, 84 towns and neighbourhoods in all, grouped into 34 area pages. The full list is on the areas page, and the postcode checker on this page will tell you straight away whether your postcode is covered. If you are outside the area we cover, we will say so rather than waste your time.
Can you tell me why it keeps blocking?
Usually, yes. What comes out of the drain and how it behaves while being cleared tells us a lot. Where it does not, or where the same drain has blocked before, a CCTV survey is the way to find out rather than guess, and it is often cheaper than paying for the same drain to be cleared again and again.
Do you work on flats and shared drainage?
Yes. Shared soil stacks and shared drains are common in converted London houses, and they need clearing from the right access point, because doing it from the wrong one can push waste into a neighbouring flat. Tell us if the property has been converted into flats when you call.
